Yummy Fusili soup with Carrot and Potato

(for baby with teeth & can chew food!)

Just want to share this simple recipe which I got from my friend in Penang, Ulfarisya. Aisya really love to eat it! I usually serve this meal without soup, using her favourite yellow bowl (to avoid her spilling the soup all around the house =P) Try it on your own, maybe your baby'll love it!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and chopped
  • 1 clove onion, peeled & sliced
  • 1 handful fusili (spiral) pasta
  • chicken fillet, chopped (or beef, but not seafood. not yet)
  • carrot, diced
  • potato, diced
  • celery, sliced
  • salt to taste
  • water

  • DIRECTIONS:
Heat oil in a small pot. Saute garlic & onion for 2 minutes, then add chicken and simmer for 1-2 minutes. Add water, carrot & potato and bring to boil until half-cooked. Add pasta, celery and salt. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until all vegetables & pasta soften. Serve your baby with or without soup. That's all!

    Dear Naked Chef Julie,

If my child still cannot chew, can i put the food inside the food processor or blender and blend it to a silky smooth texture so that my child can consume?

    Thank you..

    dear rumet,

yes of course! BUT, don't feed your newborn baby yet eventhough u blend it to a silky smooth texture! baby's bowel aren't matured enough to process such food. you can start introducing solid food to your baby at 4 months old (blended rice/porridge with carrot) and may slowly add the varieties. for this kind of recipe, avoid salt at 4 months old. use as little salt as possible in the meal as he/she grows up. as replacement, use onions/ anchovies/ olive oil to add flavour. happy learning father-to-be!

(hehe.. do i sound like a nutrition counselor?)
